USDT TRC-20 Transfer Fee: What It Costs and How to Pay Less

What a USDT TRC-20 transfer costs today: 6.5 or 13.1 TRX burned, or less with staked or rented TRON energy. Why the amount you send does not matter.

A USDT transfer on TRON has no fixed price. The same transfer can cost 6.5 TRX, 13.1 TRX or a lot less, depending on how you pay for network resources. Below we break down what the fee is made of, compare three ways to pay it and run the numbers on real energy amounts.

What the USDT transfer fee is made of

USDT on TRON is a TRC-20 token. Technically it is a smart contract, and every transfer is a call to that contract. The network charges for the call in two resources:

  • energy pays for running the smart contract and makes up most of the transfer cost;
  • bandwidth pays for the size of the transaction itself. A transfer needs very little, and every address gets a small free daily allowance.

If your address has energy, the transfer uses it. If there is no energy or not enough, the network burns TRX from your wallet to cover the shortfall.

How much energy one transfer needs

Energy use depends on the recipient:

  • about 65,000 energy if the recipient’s address already holds USDT;
  • about 131,000 energy if that address has no USDT yet, which is a transfer to a new address.

The difference comes from the contract itself: a transfer to a new address creates a new balance record for the recipient, and writing a new record to contract storage costs more. The amount does not matter: sending 10 USDT and 10,000 USDT uses the same energy.

Option 1: TRX burn

This is the default. If you simply opened your wallet and sent USDT, the network most likely burned TRX for all of the energy.

The energy price for burning is a network parameter. As of Oct 5, 2026 it is 100 SUN per unit of energy. One TRX is 1,000,000 SUN, so:

  • a standard transfer: 65,000 × 100 SUN = 6,500,000 SUN, or 6.5 TRX;
  • a transfer to a new address: 131,000 × 100 SUN = 13,100,000 SUN, or 13.1 TRX.

The upside is that you prepare nothing in advance. The downside is the price: for regular transfers, burning costs more than the other options. The network parameter can change, so check the current value before large calculations.

Option 2: Stake TRX

You can get energy yourself if you stake (freeze) TRX on your address. The staked coins stay yours, and the address receives energy that regenerates over 24 hours.

The catch is the amount. To get enough energy for one standard transfer a day, you need to stake about 6,700 TRX. For ten transfers a day, that is already about 67,000 TRX.

Also keep in mind:

  • you cannot spend staked TRX until you unstake it;
  • after unstaking, the coins come back only after a waiting period;
  • energy regenerates gradually, and several transfers in a row can use it up before it comes back.

Staking suits those who already hold a large amount of TRX and are ready to keep it on the network for a long time. Buying TRX just to stake it for a couple of transfers a day does not pay off.

Option 3: Energy rental

The third option is to get energy on your address temporarily from a service. UsdtPull sends energy to your address for a set period. The transfer uses that energy, and the network burns no TRX. When the period ends, the energy returns on its own, with nothing for you to do.

The service only needs your wallet address. Your keys and recovery phrase stay with you, and the energy delegation is visible in the TronScan block explorer.

Take an example rate of 32 SUN per unit of energy for 1 hour. This is an example rate: the exact price is shown in the app before you pay, and reference prices are on the energy pricing page.

  • a standard transfer: 65,000 × 32 SUN = 2,080,000 SUN, or 2.08 TRX;
  • a transfer to a new address: 131,000 × 32 SUN = 4,192,000 SUN, or about 4.19 TRX.

The three options compared

Option Standard transfer, 65,000 energy Transfer to a new address, 131,000 energy
TRX burn, 100 SUN 6.5 TRX 13.1 TRX
Staking TRX about 6,700 TRX staked per transfer a day roughly twice as much, about 13,500 TRX
Energy rental, 32 SUN (example) 2.08 TRX 4.19 TRX
Rental savings vs burn (example) 4.42 TRX 8.91 TRX

At the example rate, rental costs about a third of the burn: 32 SUN vs 100 SUN for the same unit of energy. Staking has no per-transfer charge, but it locks up an amount roughly a thousand times larger than the fee for one transfer.

Example: ten transfers a day

Here is the math for someone who sends 10 standard transfers a day:

  • burn: 10 × 6.5 TRX = 65 TRX a day;
  • staking: about 67,000 TRX that stay staked the whole time;
  • rental at the example rate of 32 SUN: 10 × 2.08 TRX = 20.8 TRX a day.

If some recipients are new, count those transfers separately at 131,000 energy. For a steady flow of payouts, always-on energy (energy kept on your address) is more convenient: it is topped up automatically after each transaction, so your operating address never runs out of energy between payouts.

How to pay less for transfers

  1. Check the recipient first. If their address has no USDT yet, the transfer needs about 131,000 energy. 65,000 energy covers only half, and the network burns TRX for the rest.
  2. Rent energy for your planned transfers. The math is simple: 65,000 for each standard transfer and 131,000 for each transfer to a new address. Pick a rental period long enough to send them all.
  3. Send only once the energy is on your address. Available energy is shown on your address page in TronScan. If you send earlier, the network burns TRX.
  4. Keep a little TRX in the wallet. A transfer also uses bandwidth. If the free daily allowance runs out, the network charges a small amount of TRX for it.
  5. Check the result in the block explorer. The transaction page in TronScan shows how much energy was used and whether any TRX was burned. That tells you right away whether you picked the right amount.

Ordering energy step by step is covered in the guide on how to buy energy.

In short

  • A standard USDT TRC-20 transfer uses about 65,000 energy, a transfer to a new address about 131,000.
  • Without energy, the network burns 6.5 and 13.1 TRX for them at 100 SUN per unit.
  • Staking takes about 6,700 TRX per transfer a day and suits those who already hold a large amount of TRX.
  • Energy rental at the example rate of 32 SUN costs 2.08 and 4.19 TRX for the same transfers.

What happens to energy when the rental ends and whether the service needs access to your wallet is answered in the FAQ.

Rent energy

UsdtPull sends energy to your address for a set period. The transfer goes through without burning TRX, your keys stay with you and the energy returns on its own afterwards.

    In the app, you enter your wallet address, the amount of energy and the rental period.

  2. Energy on your address

    Energy lands on your address. The delegation is visible in the block explorer.

  3. No TRX burned

    The transfer uses the rented energy instead of your TRX. When the period ends, the energy returns on its own.
